DRAFT SUBMISSION FROM THE SECRETARY OF STATE

TO THE QUEEN.

Mr. Secretary Stewart, with his humble duty to The Queen, has the honour to submit for Your

Majesty's approval the proposal that the title

to

"Royal" be accorded the Hong Kong Police and

Auxiliary Police Forces as a tribute to their

loyalty and devotion to duty over a

long

period and particularly during the Communist

in sprired disturbances which took plac e in

the Colony during 1967

Mr. Secretary Stewart also submits for

Your Majesty's approval that H.R.H. Princess

Alexandra be appointed honorary "Commandant

General" of the two forces. Her Royal

Highness has indicated that She would be

pleased to accept such an appointment if

Your Majesty so approved.

The Governor of Hong Kong fully supports

these proposals.
