(v) On communist schools Mr. Gregg said

that draft legislation was in hand giving additional powers, e.g. over closing schools. Registration was going ahead, mainly in the older labour urban areas where the communists were

now trying to expand. The Department were re-establishing contact and control though this was not quite back to normal. It was now possible for inspectors to sit in at classes in communist schools instead of a police

operation being required. There was now a place for all at primary schools at a reasonable fee; when the fees were reduced in September he expected the communist schools to reduce theirs in step. In some respects he was more

worried about the infiltration of communists in

government schools than about the communist

schools themselves.
