MOST SIXTH FORMERS SEEK FURTHER EDUCATION ON LEAVING SCHOOL

More than two-thirds of the 6,500 sixth formers who left school
last year continued with some form of further education, either in Hong
Kong or abroad.
A survey carried out recently by the Education Department showed
that less than 400 failed to find any employmont four months after leaving
school. Some 1,000 others took up jobs in industry and commerce.
And, only 1,000 of them failed to complete a matriculation course.
Statistics showed that 700 entered the University of Hong Kong,
550 enrolled at the Chinese University, 750 took up full time day courses
of four-year duration in private post secondary colleges and 150 joined
the three Colleges of Education.

The Hong Kong Technical College also reported an increase in enrolment.
The survey showed that about 2,000 left the Colony to further
their studies either in the United States or in Canada. Another 1, 600
wont to Britain, Australia, New Zealand and various Asian countries.
It also showed that a large proportion of girls became student
nurses, student physiotherapists and student radiographers, while many boys
entered the technical field, and a few chose to join the Police Force.
