Enrolment in primary day schools in March 1969 was 699,900 pupils which represents 108.1% of the estimated population aged 6 years inclusive, but 141,000 of the pupils enrolled were outside the normal age range.
The number of pupils in night schools and special afternoon classes has fallen from 63,100 in March 1962 to 25,700 in March, 1969.
