BULLETIN

POLYTECHNIC ON A SMALL SCALE TO START SOON

The first step in the creation of a Polytechnic in Hong Kong will

involve certain changes to the present set up of the Hong Kong Technical

College in Hung Hom.

These changes will be phased so that a Polytechnic on a small scale

would be in operation well before the second college is completed in 1974.

They will include the addition of new courses in the field of

commerce and the raising of standard levels of several existing courses.

The craft and apprentice courses of the Hung Hom College will be

transferred to the Morrison Hill Technical Institute when the latter is

completed in April next year.

The transfer of the two types of lower level courses would mean

an additional 300 places for students wishing to get training at a higher

level at the Hung Hom College.

Four engineering courses - Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical and

Production Engineering will be extended by one year to four-year courses

to bring them up to the level of Part II of the British Council of Engineering

Institutions Examinations. Students successfully completing the four-year

courses will then have the academic qualification of a Chartered Engineer.
