(13) Irish Textile Restrictions

The Irish have restricted the import of textiles from sixteen countries, including Hong Kong, for the protection of their own industries Under the terms of GATT, Hong Kong has protested to the Irish but has received unsatisfactory replies through- out. Thismatter was to have been raised at a meeting, in December, of the Anglo- Irish Economic Committee, but following the imposition of Import Deposits by the United Kingdom, this and other matters have taken precedence and Hong Kong's protest will probably not now be discussed. (The Committee is in any case primarily concerned with EFTA matters.)
