DRAFT NOTE OF MEETING
Restraints on textiles
Mr. Goldsmith said that no decision on the UK line could be
taken until we knew the results of the discussions between the
Japanese and the Americans.
Mr. Jordan said that the main points in which Hong Kong was
interested were:-
(a) That the uniqueness of the Cotton Textiles Arrangement
should be maintained.
(b) It followed from this that if something had to be done
internationally about restraint of non-cotton textiles
it should be done by extension of the CTA and not by
means of separate GATT discussion of the problems of
non-cotton textiles.
(c) Extension of the CTA could be a reasonable solution of the
problem of "substitution" of man-made fibres for cottori alte
this did not cover the whole problem of m.m.f. tex-
were
tiles since in some fields m.m.f. textiles/substitute
for wool.
