cotton textiles of $2167 million. The United Kingdom was our second largest

market for cotton textile exports and only the U.S.A. took more of this item

from us in 1968 U.S. imports wore $706 million.

"If the United Kingdom Government decided to act on the Textilo

Council's recommendation on the imposition of a tariff on Commonwealth

cotton textilos it would affect not only Hong Kong but many other Commonwealth

countries.

"The degree to which such a stop would affect the volumo and

profitability of our exports, however, cannot be assessed without some

indication of tho rato at which quantitative restrictions would be removed.

"When the fuller details of the Textile Counsil Report are known,

I shall consult the Textilo Advisory Board to seek their advice."

EXTENSION OF SWIMMING POOL HOURS

As Summer will soon be with us here, we can look forward again to

swimming and sunbathing.

For the enjoyment of the people of Hong Kong, the Urban Council

has extended the opening hours of our two most popular swimming pools on

the Island and in Kowloon.

From today (Tuesday), the Victoria park swimming pool opens for

public uso from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.

The Kowloon Tsai swimming pool also opens at 7 a.m., but its

closing hours vary from 6 p.m. to 8.15 p.m.

Tho now hours remain in force until the end of October when tho

closing hours of the two swimming pools will rovert to 6 p.m.
