There is no question of our
approaching other Commonwealth Governments to discuss
the proposal for a tariff on cotton textiles unless a
decision has been taken to follow up the Council's
commendation on this subject. We have very much in
mind cur various contractual and other obligations to
other Commonwealth countries as well as the principles
on which the Commonwealth preference area has been
built up over many years.
Hong Kong
The Textile Council ought
also to understand that we have to consider the needs
of our own industry.
