Whilst we shall be pleased to answer your telephone enquiries, it is earnestly This will relieve requested that such enquiries should only be made if absolutely necessary. the pressure on our staff and will greatly assist them in giving their undivided attention to the payment of Import Deposits.
IMPORT DEPOSITS
On behalf and with the authority of the Hong Kong exporter we are ourselves prepared to pay the Import Deposit on this transaction to H.M. Customs on the following conditions:

You are required to accept or pay the attached bill of exchange (whichever is appropiate).
After acceptance/payment of the bill you, in collaboration with your clearing agents, are required to complete on our behalf and return to us Customs Form C. & E. 139, in QUADRUPLICATE.
The name and address of this Bank should be entered in Sections 2 and 7 of Form C. & E. 139. In section 7, below the address of this Bank, should be entered our Bill reference. This will be found (impressed by rubber stamp) on the bill of exchange and on all shipping documents that have passed through our hands. You should complete and forward to your clearing agents the remaining documents that will enable them to make the Customs Entry. In your letter you should indicate to your agent that The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation will be paying the Import Deposit and that we shall be mailing them our remittance as soon as possible after we have received from you correctly completed Form C. & E. 139. We should stress that the payment will be made by us and that we only shall be entitled to repayment by H.M. Customs at the end of the relative period.
TWO COPIES OF YOUR LETTER TO YOUR CLEARING AGENT MUST BE RETURNED TO US WITH COMPLETED FORM C. & E. 139.
You are required to remit to us, at the same time you forward us Form C. & E. 139, the Hong Kong exporter's charge for this service amounting to 5% of the amount of the Import Deposit.
IT IS EMPHASISED THAT YOU MUST LIAISE WITH YOUR CLEARING AGENT REGARDING THE EXACT AMOUNT PAYABLE TO H.M. CUSTOMS WHICH MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE 50% of THE C.I.F. VALUE OF THE GOODS.

We reserve the right to substitute, at our discretion, a Clearing Agent of our own choice for the purpose of paying the Import Deposit to H.M. Customs.
We accept no responsibility for delay in Customs Entry for any reason whatsoever.
