Consumption of knitted cotton underwear fell

hoavily from 1965 onwards. Imports fell much more

than production. Between 1967 and 1968 production

fell further and importa rece a osall part of

the lost ground. The big increase from Hong Kong

was matched by a big increase from the U.K. and

Denmark.

14. Knitted cotton nightwear. There has been

scarcely any change in the import/export position.

Denmark has increased her share of the trade much

more over the past four years than Ilong Kong and is

by far the largest supplier.

Swedish production of sheets was much higher

in 1960 than in any recent year. Imports from

Hong Kong rose rapidly in 1968 to onc-eighth of total importa, but fell again to a very low level in the

first two months of this year,

Froduction of

towels fell by 10 per cent. Imports increased,

but other large suppliers, including Finland and the

U.S.A., also improved their position. Italy forced

Hong Kong into third place in the first two months

of this year.
