Swedish Textile Negotiations.

We warned in paragraph two of our telegram

No. 320 that we had doubts about the strength of

the Swedish case mentioning the proposed heavy

reduction in the restraint level for anoraks in

particular. Although analysis of the Swedish

proposals is not quite complete we think we ought

to warn you that those doubts persist.

We foresee therefore that it may be necessary

to ask you to send Jordan to London to discuss the

10 negotiating instructions set out in paragraph

of your telegram No. 339 before he goes to Stockholm.

We think this might well be preferable to dealing by

telegram particularly if Jordan could be in London

long enough before Stockholm consultations recommence

(say 10 June) to allow any necessary reference back

to your to be made in good time.
