"Having boon satisfied that the increased volume of exports from

Hong Kong in 1968 had contributed significantly to these difficultios,

wo had decided to extend the restraint on womon's knitwear to cover exports

of mon's and boys' for the same period, that is, up to June 30, 1969,"

Mr. Sorby said.

The restraint limits have been combined to give maximum flexibility

to the trado, ho addod.

In the case of anoraks the Swedish Government had produced figuros

to show the offect on Swedish production of rapidly-increasing imports,

principally from Hong Kong.

It had also become apparent that there is not much difference

botwoon mon's and women's anoraks in colour, style or size.

Accordingly, the new restraint limit for the womon's anoraks

has been combined with the existing limit for mon's anoraks.

But, in the case of polyester/cotton shirts, the Hong Kong

representativos argued that the figures did not show that Hong Kong's

exports were injuring the Swedish industry, and the Swedish Government

withdrew their request.

The Department will recommence the issue of Export Authorisations

for polyester/cotton shirts to Sweden tomorrow (Saturday).

Control arrangements for the newly restrained items will be

announced as soon as possible.
