Told

him that it looked as though when the Board of Trade and Hong Kong representatives meet in Geneva before negotiations begin with the Swedes there might not be a complete identity of view between them. The bone of contention being whether the team had licence to concede category 751 in the last resort. Told him that we thought that consultation with Mr. Goldsmith before negotiations began might resolve this difficulty and that we were advising the Hong Kong delegation accordingly. Warned him that Mr. Carter might wish to have a word on the telephone with Mr. Goldsmith on Monday. Agreed that Mr. Jones would tell Goldsmith this and that it would be easier if Goldsmith telephoned between say, 10.30 and 12.00 on Monday morning.
