Hong Kong/Sweden Textile Negotiations
We have been considering the outcome of the talks that took place in Geneva a week ago as reported in Geneva telegrams No. 4 & 5 to Hong Kong and 75 to you. I enclose a copy of a note on these discussions prepared by Miss Welch, who attended from the Board of Trade.
I can now confirm that we can accept the agreement which was reached ad referendum at the conclusion of these talks. For the record, the terms of this agreement are as follows:
1) There will be a new combined restraint level for both
men's and womens synthetic fibre Anoraks of 795,000 pieces for the year ended 30th June 1969.
2)
3)
There will be a new combined restraint level for womens woolen and acrylic and mens woolen knitted outer wear of 2,238,000 pieces for the year ended 30th June 1969.
There will be no change in the present position on woven discontinuous filament dress shirts.
We shall be considering, in due course, our attitude to any Swedish requests for the extension of these arrangements beyond June.
Yours war,
Up Kemmis
