PRIORITY STOCKHOLM TELEGRAM NO.18 TO HONG KONG OF 18 NOVEMBER,

1968

CONFIDENTIAL [NEUTRAL]

Addressed to Hong Kong telegram No.18 of 18 November, Repeated for information to FCO.

For Jordan Commerce and Industry Department.

Your telegram No.1570. —

3)

Following discussions with the M.F.A. the Swedish authorities have now agreed on this occasion to release consignments totalling 7,846 garments, they understand the Hong Kong authorities' difficulties but hope that it will not be necessary to request a similar concession in the future. This decision is being communicated also to the Swedish Consul-General.

2.

We have thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this favourable decision and said that the best way to avoid repetition of these difficulties would be to discontinue restraint arrangements at the end of the year. The Swedes did not commit themselves on this point.

3.

(FCO only) please copy to Sellers of Hong Kong Office London.

FCO please pass Hong Kong.
