I am writing to thank you for your assistance recently, giving me the background to the Austrian Anti-Dumping Legislation.
2. This matter was discussed with Mr. Jordan, Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce and Industry in Hong Kong, and the Board of Trade's view was considered and agreed to. However, although Hong Kong are prepared to await Austria's ratification of the Anti-Dumping Code, they are also adopting a "wait and see" attitude. At present they cannot prove that the Legislation is affecting their exports to Austria, although the substantial decline has caused them to suspect that this may be the case. Until the cause of the decline can be definitely established Hong Kong wishes that no further action be taken on her behalf; should you have any information on this point, we should be grateful to receive it.
3. If the Board of Trade decide to make an approach to Austria we should be glad to know in advance, in case Hong Kong wish to be associated with it. Although I realise that you are dealing, on this matter, with another department in this office, we should like to be kept abreast of any developments.
