Dear Murray,

I refer to your letter HKK 6/344/1 of 5 August addressed to Relton, who is on leave at present, about Algerian import restrictions against Hong Kong.

2. I am sorry that you did not receive a copy of the Note Verbale which we sent to the Algerians following receipt of your telegram No. 45 of 21 March. A copy is now enclosed.

3. No response has been received to date from the Algerians and I have been unable to raise anyone this week on the telephone who might know something about it. The Algerians very rarely do reply to Notes and I think it is fair to assume in this instance that not only do they not intend to reply but also that they do not yet intend to relax their import restrictions against Hong Kong.
