Notification to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
Arrangement Regarding International
Trade in Cotton Textiles
Arrangement Between Singapore and Canada
The following communication has been received by the Director-General from the Canadian Mission for notification to the Cotton Textiles Committee.
Following consultations between the Governments of Canada and Singapore, pursuant to Article 6 of the Arrangement Regarding International Trade in Cotton Textiles, the Government of Singapore has agreed to restrain exports to Canada of certain cotton and polyester/cotton textile products in accordance with the attached Memorandum of Understanding.
Memorandum of Understanding
This Memorandum of Understanding sets out the arrangements which have been agreed between the Governments of Canada and Singapore regarding the restraints to be applied by the Government of Singapore to exports of cotton and polyester/cotton shirts and trousers (including slacks, shorts and jeans) to Canada.

The Governments of Canada and Singapore agree that; (a) these agreements relate to the three twelve-month periods ending 31st December, 1968, 31st December, 1969 and 31st December, 1970; (b) the annual restraint levels for exports of cotton and polyester/cotton shirts and trousers (including slacks, shorts and jeans) from Singapore to Canada will be established at 22,000 dozen and 60,000 dozen respectively; (c) to take account of exports from Singapore before 15th May, 1968, 12,000 dozen of cotton and polyester/ cotton shirts and 96,000 dozen of cotton and polyester/cotton trousers (including slacks, shorts and jeans) will be deducted, in three equal annual instalments, from the annual restraint levels as established in (b) above.

The Governments of Canada and Singapore will provide each other on request with any available statistical data relevant to these arrangements.

The Governments of Canada and Singapore will enter into consulations on request about any matter arising from or related to these arrangements.
