W. German Output Increases by 12% In First 7 Months
FRANKFURT, W. Germany.- Total sales of textile products during the first seven months of 4 marks of $1, an increase of 4 marks of £1, an increase of 12 per cent over the same period last year. The growth rate for West German industry as a whole in the period was 16.9 per cent. An average of 506,026 people were employed in textiles during the period, an increase of 4.6 per cent. Gross wages paid, however, increased by 12.7 per cent, while total hours worked rose by 4 per cent. In spite of this prices rose by only about 2 per cent.
The men's outerwear Indus- try provided the biggest surprise. with an increase of 16.3 per cent in the number of garments pro- duced. Sales in the garment in- dustry as a whole rose by 10.0 per cent on a cash value basis..
Synthetic fiber production in- creased by 30.4 per cent to a total of 270 million pounds. Fila- ments rose by 26.2 per cent to 300 million pounds. Regenerated fibers and filaments showed in-. significant increases. Total out- pu' in the seven months was around 325 million pounds.
West German textile imports during the period (not including raw materials) rose by 34.1 per cent to $1.17 billion. Exports went up by 30.2 per cent to $890
illion (both figures at 4.1).
