It will be seen that in 1968 shirts and sweaters accounted
for more than half of total U.S. imports of garments, and that the
increase in imports of sweaters was particularly great. U.S.
cuttings of dress and business shirts increased by 10 per cent
in 1968, but cuttings of men's sports and work shirts fell by
20 per cent and 13 per cent respectively. However, the figures
published by Textile Organon, already roforred-te, suggest that
domestic production of knitted sports shirts have been increasing
very rapidly and it is not clear that imports are responsible
for the reduction in cuttings of sports shirts, in 1967 Imports
