SECRETARY STANS: Yes. In many countries there

were protests about barriers to trade in the United States

other than tariffs. One we heard about in the first ten

minutes of every meeting in Europe was the American selling

7 price clause.

There were also complaints about certain technical

requirements imposed by the American Government on imports

but generally speaking, we took the position that there

were a lot more barriers to our exports to other countries

than there were barriers by the United States on imports
