This press conference has been called so that I
can give you a report on the trips we made to Europe and to
the Far East on trade matters. There were a number of
purposes behind these trips and a number of subjects were ̈
discussed and I would like to dispell immediately the idea
this was the trip for the sole purpose of talking about
textiles.
For one thing, both trips carried messages from
the President to heads of state in various countries indicating
his interest in close international realtions in the field of
commerce, generally.

various countries in some detail on the Nixon Administration's

economic and trade policies, in particular the determination

of the Administration to fight inflation in the United States

and the commitment of the Nixon Administration to policies-
