RECOND OF DISCUSSIONS

Mr. Daniel Trade Officer, visited the kæpublic of Korea at the invitation

of the Sepublic of Korea from 20 to 25 February 1959.

During the visit, an informal conference vas held, at the Hinistry mmerce and Industry on 22 February 19:9, between Vico Kinister Chul beung of Commerce and Industry and Director Terence D, Sarby of Commerce and industry to discuss trade relations between the Republic of Lorea Hong Kong as matters of mutual interest regarding trade with other countries.

Welcoming the delegation from Hong Kong, Vice Minister Lee expressed his satisfaction with the trade relations, which have been gradually expanding between the kapublic of Korea and long long, and requested continued co-operatie of the Long Kong Government for further increase of trade volume, sounding out possibilities of finding some means of avoiding unnecessary competition between the two parties for their identical export items to the world markets.
Virector Sorby, with expression of thanks for the kind invitation that has made a long-cherished desire of visiting the @public of Iorsa possible, expressed his admiration for the conspicuous growth and vitality of Korean economy which the Republic of Korea had attained in a short period of time. The Director also emphasised the importance of close co-operation among neighbouring countries in Asia, even though a certain competition might be
considered as an incentive to the business circles. But he asked the Korean
Government to understand political and economic position of long long•
3. Vice Minister Lee stressed the importance and necessity of strengthening the already-existing friendly ties and accelerating economic co-operation through international division of industrial production as a means of comple-
mentary development of industry, the equitable sharing of international markets
and the exchange of technical know-how. De proposed to encourage the exchange of business groups between the two parties.
