Mr. Morgan's visit to Hong Kong and we agreed that it might be helpful for Mr. Moram to have a note on UK/USA trade policies, with particular reference to our attitude to protectionism.
2. I attach a copy of the brief prepared in connec- tion with President Nixon's visit. You will see from the "Talking Points", i.e. the first two pages of the brief, that we are prepared to take a fairly robust line on the question of protectionism when President Nixon makes his visit. We have particularly in mind the possible restraints on imports, of textiles into the USA and you might let Mr. Moren know that in the steering brief, which summarised the major topics mentioned in each of the sixteen individual briefs, our position on possible restraints on textile imports was specially underlined.
