In view of Mr. Montague's possible involvement, it would be wise not to use the above information at the meeting but to say only that the latest information is that the French (Société Générale) are showing interest in the Tunnel Project but have not made up their minds, while ECGD is considering whether this development will cause them to alter their first position. The Board of Trade representative on the Committee (not, on this occasion we understand, Mr. Toms, but Mr. McTavish who is new to the Committee) has been briefed in similar terms.
