The meeting of representatives of the Association of Hong Kong Government Educational Workers referred to above resolved that the Council of the Association be instructed to acquaint Your Excellency with this statement of its views and to submit to Your Excellency the following requests, which we now accordingly submit, with great respect, on behalf of the Association:
3.
(i) That Your Excellency provide for the application to Government Teachers
of any equal pay scheme which Government proposes to introduce, at the same time and to the same extent as it is applied to all other grades in the Government Service where men and women are, like teachers, doing identical work, or are doing similar work of virtually equal value. (ii) That Your Excellency provide for the appointment of an independent and
expert Commission, selected as was the 1965 Salaries Commission after due consultation with the main Staff Associations, to advise the Hong Kong Government on what need might exist in Hong Kong for changes in Government Teachers' conditions of service and in the structure of the Education Department, and, should the Commission consider any such changes necessary, to make proposals as to the nature of such changes and the manner in which they should be carried out.
Copies of this Petition to Your Excellency are being forwarded today to the Hon. Director of Education and to the Councils of the three main Staff Associations for their information, as they have an interest in the views and requests detailed above, these being the views and requests of a wide cross- section of Hong Kong Government Teachers.
We have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your Excellency's humble and obedient servants,
