Night Work for Women

Korea

Article 56 (Prohibition of Night work) of

Chapter V (Female and Minor) of the Labour Standards

Law (Law No.286, promulgated on May 10, 1953; Amended

by Law No.791 on December 4, 1961) reads as follows

"No female or minor under 18 years of age

shall be authorised to work between 2200 hours

and 0600 hours or on a holiday, unless other- wise authorised by the Ministry of Healty and

Social Affairs."

Fairchild Semikor Limited in Seoul, Korea has

received such authorisation and currently employs over

500 women on their third shift com

commencing at 2200 and

ending at 0555. No restrictions are placed on the employ-

ment of these women except those that apply to all employees

who are engaged in night work.

The operation in Seoul is

identical to the major portion of Fairchild's Hong Kong plant.
