(iii) provide for maternity protection in employment;
(iv) prescribe a minimum age for employment in licensed premises, to be followed by more
detailed provisions on conditions of employment in licensed premises;
(v) provide six days paid holidays a year, and an
(vi)
included :
entitlement to sick leave earned at the rate of one day a month, for all employees in continuous employment who fall within the orbit of the Employment Ordinance;
revise certain provisions of the Trade Union Registration Ordinance in the light of experience and of recent events.
Regulations which came into force on 1st October, 1969
(i) Quarries (Safety) Regulations, which are very
comprehensive and in certain respects go beyond provisions imposed in the United Kingdom;
(ii) Factories and Industrial Undertakings (First
Aid in Registrable Workplaces) (Amendment) Regulations, which specify the training required by first-aiders in industry, the number of first aiders who must be on duty at any one time, and the number and content of first-aid boxes;
(iii) Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, which secure tighter control over underground employment, and introduce pre- employment medical examinations and periodic medical examinations for those aged under 21 years.

The Workmen's Compensation (Amendment) Bill was taken to Executive Council on 30th September. It is hoped it will be enacted some time in November, and come into force on 1st January, 1970. It includes for the first time farm labourers, domestic servants and non- manual workers in the $700-$1,500 bracket and those injured during the course of saving or rendering first-aid to others; increases the maximum compensation payable on death and total permanent incapacity from $18,000 to $45,000, and from $24,000 to $60,000 respectively; increases the compensation payable for temporary incapacity from one-half to two-thirds of the wages paid at the time of the injury; and ceases to make payments
