Labour in Hong Kong to permit the employment of women at night. I think it would be wrong to give the Commissioner of Labour permission to approve the employment of certain groups of women solely at night, i.e. on perpetual nightshift without rotation of shifts. It must, I think, be, fairly clear that a woman would only agree tonight shifts if that were the only period during which she could, in fact, be employed. This suggests that this form of night shift would appeal to those women who needed extra income but whose domestic responsibilities prevented them from working during the day. It is precisely this group which requires protection and whose position has caused most concern in this country when the whole question of nightwork for women has been debated.
