EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN
Agromont Reached On Implementing First Stage
Agrocent has bocn reached between the Government and the throo
main staff associations on implementing the first stago of the scheme for
equal pay for women employed in the public servico.
The throo main associations aro tho Hong Kong Chinoso Civil Sorvants'
Association, the Association of European Civil Servants and the Sanior
Non-Expatriate Officers' Association.
The main principlo upon which this schone is based is that, wharo
man and women aro doing identical work or similar work of virtually oqual
valuo, both should be paid tho samo salary.
Tho schamo is being put into affect by annual stages, starting
an April 1, 1969. Its aim is to achieve parity by April, 1975.
The first stage, now being put into operation, affacts about 5,000
women out of a total of about 12,200 women working in the public service.
It is hoped that actual payments of tho rovisod salarios for this
group of woman, including back pay duo with effect from April 1, 1969, will
begin in Nov amb or.
