In answering the Director's tatt
question about H.M.G's policy on the
retention of Hong Kong you could not
do better than quote Lord
Shepherd
who, in a radio talk to the people of
Hong Kong in October 1967, said
".....but I must make it clear that
we cannot consider any abdication of
our authority and responsiblities in
Hong Kong. I repeat the assurance that
I gave when I came to Hong Kong.
This is the determination of Her Majesty's
Government and the British people to support
and sustain the Colony of Hong Kong".

Shepherd could have said no less you
might also draw his attention to Lord
Rhodes' statement in the House of Lords
