The Government's courage in

tackling this problem is a measure of our

determination to put the economy right.

Though the outlook for us now is as

hard as it was during 1968, it is certainly

no harder.

The whole of our policies require

us to have a strong economy.

We recognise the difficulties

in doing so, but we have taken and will continue

to take those decisions which seem to us

necessary if we are to succeed.

I have by implication, been critical

of some of our past attitudes, for nobody who

knows what the British people are capable of
