HER MAJESTY'S TREASURY

COMMONWEALTH FINANCE MINISTERS' CONFERENCE 1969

1.

PROVISIONAL BRIEFING ARRANGEMENTS

Note by the Treasury

The 1969 meeting of Finance Ministers will be held in Barbados on Thursday, 25th and Friday, 26th September, shortly before the annual meetings with the I.M.F. and I.B.R.D. which are to be held in Washington from 29th September to 3rd October. A draft agenda will be circulated.

2. A list of briefs needed with serial numbers and departmental responsibility is at Annex A to this note. Departments are asked to clear briefs inter-departmentally as necessary before circulating them.

The briefs should be circulated by Friday, 29th August.

3.

4.

The briefs should be headed in accordance with the pattern in Annex B.

5. Each brief should start with a short summary, in single spacing, which would indicate the relation of the brief to the agenda of the Ministers' meeting (or of the officials' meeting as appropriate), and should state whether there are any points the United Kingdom delegation should raise. The main body of the brief as short as possible should follow double spacing, with side headings as appropriate.

6. Speaking notes should be provided in an annex for all briefs in categories B and C.

7. The Treasury Committee Section (Mrs. Mills, ext. 1189) will circulate all briefs to those listed in Annex C to this note;

departments outside the Treasury should provide 60 copies of each brief for this purpose. (In the case of briefs prepared within the Treasury, the Committee Section will handle duplication.)

Enquiries

8. These should be referred to Mr. R. Hay or Mr. N.A. Nagler (Treasury, ext. 829 or 655) or to Mr. A.H. Dunn (F.C.O., Great George Street, ext. 207).

Treasury Chambers, Great George Street, LONDON, S.W.1.
