SCALE OF MINIMUM FEES

The question as to whether there should be a scale of minimum fees was considered and the Bar Committee drew up certain proposals which have been circulated to members. Such proposals were made with a view to assisting new members of the Bar. The response from members has not been enthusiastic.

BAR ASSOCIATION FUNDS

The Bar Committee is concerned with the present inadequate funds of the Bar Association and is considering means of increasing revenue. Whilst it may be possible to have legislative provisions introduced enabling the Bar Association to charge fees for Applications for Admissions, etc. (similar to Rules now applicable to Solicitors), the Bar Committee is of the view that ultimately Members' sub- scriptions to the Bar Association must be substantially increased. It is to be noted that our annual subscriptions are substantially lower than those payable by Solicitors to the Law Society.

COMMITTEES OF ENQUIRY, ETC.

The following members have served on Committees of Enquiry during the year: D'Almada, Q.C., O'Reilly Mayne, Q.C., Patrick Yu (twice) and Benjamine Liu (twice).

O'Reilly Mayne, Q.C., O. V. Cheung, Q.C., Basto, Litton and Asome have appeared on behalf of the Bar Committee before Committees of Enquiry and/or the Courts on disciplinary matters.
