needed more information before voting on the "new rule” and to defer making any recommendations to the Chief Justice so that a two month "Trial Period" could take place during which there was to be relaxation by the Registrar of the strictness against borrowing books. This matter came up for discussion at the meeting of the Committee held on the 15th December 1967, during which it was decided to extend the "Trial Period" for another three months.

This was

agreed to as the September-December period had proved satisfactory as no complaints were made by members. It is relevant to note that during this period a total of only 16 books were borrowed by members for use in their chambers and 30 books were borrowed by members of Law Society.

Members should, therefore, adhere to the present arrangement, namely, books may be borrowed from the Library 1 hour before it closes for use in their chambers upon the written permission of the Registrar but such borrowed books must be returned to the Library within 45 minutes after the Library next opens. If books are borrowed for use in Court members should inform the Librarian accordingly.

LAWASIA

Last year's Annual Report reported the inauguration of the Regional Law Association for Asia and the Far East (Lawasia) and that the Hong Kong Bar Association as a body and some individual barristers had joined.

Our representative (Leo D'Almada, Q.C.) reports on further activities as follows:-

(1) The Executive Committee of the Association held its first meeting in Sydney on 23rd and 24th February 1967.
