12. Lord Shepherd asked whether either Mrs. Grey or

Mr. Maw had any further questions to ask. Both said

for

"No" and expressed their appeciation what Lord Shepherd

had told them. They said they now realised the difficulties

we were working under and were quite satisfied that HMG

were really doing their best to bring about Mr. Grey's

release.

The question of what might be said to the Press on

leaving the Office was then again discussed. Mrs. Grey

that she had spokento

that he had told her what

said that her line would be:

Lord Shepherd about her son;

HMG were doing; and that she was satisfied that in the

circumstances we were doing our best.

In conclusion Lord Shepherd assured Mrs. Grey that if

we had any news of her son we would pass it on to her

immediately. He also said that she should not hesitate

to get in touch with him at any time if she so wished.

Both Mrs. Grey and Mr. Maw expressed their gratitude to

Lord Shepherd for this.

15. The meeting lasted for just under an hour.
