Luncheon and Other Engagements
In Leslie Monson's absence Michael Wilford would like to offer you lunch on Monday, 24 November (in the event Monson will, we feel sure, be your host). Sir Stanley Tomlinson would like you to lunch with him on Tuesday, 25th November if the date is not pre-empted by Sir Denis Greenhill.
7. Sir Charles Elworthy, the CDS, has asked if you could lunch with him. Unfortunately he will be in Ireland on the Wednesday, 26 November. He would like to offer you lunch on Wednesday, 10 Decemner if you are planning to be in London by that time (12.45 at the United Services Club).
8. I have talked with Michael Wright about other engagements. He tells me that the Hong Kong Association have enquired about a luncheon engagement but were quite understanding when told that you were spending only a short time in London and had a crowded programme. On the other hand Wednesday, 26 November is free so far as lunch is concerned. Michael has told you, I think, about Royle's invitation to talk to the Anglo-Hong Kong Parliamentary Group and to dinner thereafter in the House. I have tentatively earmarked Tuesday evening for this. I would be glad of your views on both these points.
9. We have run into difficulty about fitting in an appointment with the Parliamentary Commissioner. He will not be available (I believe out of London) when you come up in November. But we probably could arrange an appointment in the morning of Tuesday, 9 December or on Thursday, 11 December if this would suit you. Alternatively if you cared to see Sykes, the Secretary (who, we are told, is more clued up on and interested in overseas manifesta- tions of the Ombudsman concept than the Parliamentary Commissioner) we could probably arrange an appointment on Tuesday, 25 November or on 10 or 11 December.
Hotel Booking and Car
10. Michael Wright has asked me to mention that he has revised the Cavendish Hotel booking to include the night of 23/24 November. As soon as we know the details of your movements we will make the usual arrangements for a car.
