Hong Kong Department
7 November, 1969
12
I enclose what is advisedly described as a Provisional Programme for your visits on 24-26 Novembar and 8-11 December,
2. I would like to draw your attention to the following items:
(a) Appointment with Y, K. PAO at 6 p.m. on 24 November.
3.
Lunch with Hong Kong Association on 8 December.
Lunch with B.B.C. on 9 December.
These arrangements have been made in consultation with Michael Wright and I hope you find them satisfactory.
(b) Keeting with Anglo/Hong Kong Parliamentary Group and
dinner with Royle, on Monday, 8 December.
Our original proposal to fit this engagement in on 25 November was unacceptable to Royle who had a previous engagement. We had little alternative but to transfer it to the December visit and he readily fell in with this.
(a) You will see that we have managed to fix a meeting with
Sir E. Compton and Sykes at the Parliamentary Commissioner's office on 10 December.
(d) Lunch at Thatched House Lodge on Tuesday, 25 November.
I told you that Eates had been invited to see Princess Alexandra on that day but could give you no details at that time. He (and his wife) have been given an appointment for 12.15 - 12.45 but have not been invited to lunch. Your paths may cross at the front door.
I also enclose a copy of the Frovisional Agenda, with your three itens added. Could you let me know very briefly what point(s) you wish to raise under the heading "Telegraphic Communications" Do that we can, if necessary, ask the Communications Department people to attend?
4. I imagine that you will have private engagements and personal affairs to attend to during your December visit. It would help if you could tell me what times you would like kept free of any official engagements in case we come under pressure to make further appointments, I am
deliberately leaving Thursday, 11 December clear,
Sir David Trench, GCO., MO.
(w. 8. Carter)
