First elected to Senate at General Elections 1961; Member of Senate Select Committee on the Encouragement of Australian Productions for Television 1962-63; Member of Senate Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances August 1965 - Oct. 1966; Deputy Leader of Opposition in Senate since Feb. 1967; Chairman of Parliamentary Labour Party's Committee on Education and Science, also that for Communication and the Arts.
