1. ARRANGEMENTS FOR 1967, 1968, 1969 AND 1970
(Previous Reference: RV(67) 3rd Meeting Minutes)
CONFIDENTIAL
The Committee considered a note by the Secretary (RV(67) 5) to which was attached a schedule of projected visits, based on material provided by the Foreign Office, Commonwealth Office and Ministry of Defence.
1967
In discussion the following main points were made
(a) The memorial service for Lord Attlee would take place on 7th November, during the State Visit of the President of Turkey; but this need not cause any change in the arrangements for the Visit since the President would be
away from London on that day.

(b) The timing of the proposed visits to Mauritius and to Swaziland was not
yet firm, but the visit to Mauritius was almost certain to be in February
or very soon afterwards. Both visits would be suitable and might
appropriately be undertaken, if she agreed, by Princess Alexandra;
Hauritius might alternatively be made by The Duke of Kent.
recommendation about which member of the Royal Family should undertake either

(c) The possibility of a visit to Sweden by Princess Margaret was being further considered; Princess Margaret had agreed to the proposal in principle but was not firmly committed to it.
(a) The proposed State Visits to Latin American countries by The Queen
and The Duke of Edinburgh should follow The Duke of Edinburgh's visit to the
Olympic Games at Mexico City in October 1968. The Queen had indicated
that she would not find the weather intolerable at that time of the year. This meant that The Duke of Edinburgh would not visit the Galapagos Islands until 29th October, and the Latin American visits would begin in the first week in November. The Falkland Islands dispute might give rise to demonstrations if a visit were made to Argentina, but it was not impossible that the dispute might be resolved in the course of the next six months. If it should prove possible to arrange a visit to Argentina this would simplify the physical planning of the journey between Chile and Brazil; but the appropriate course for the present was to proceed on the basis of visits to Chile and Brazil only, and to keep the possibility of a visit to Argentina under review.
