present itself and that the circumstances would be likely to reduce any dangers there might be to a minimum.

A visit by the Queen would undoubtedly do

a great deal of good here. She would be tremendously welcome and I am sure her coming would do much to improve the feelings of Hong Kong people towards the U.K. feelings which are not as warm as they might be at the present time.

1968 is a long way ahead, I know, but I

understand it is probably not too early to raise this suggestion. I do so, of course, only in the most tentative way at this stage. Much remains to be considered; all I would really like to know at present is whether you think there is any chance of such a visit being at least contemplated. If there is, I would very much like to enter a bid when Her Majesty's future programme is next under review.
