Adjournment Debate The Unofficials

regretted that Mrs. Hart's reply had

received less publicity than Mr. Johnston's

speech. They said that Mr. Johnston's

recent visit had been at the request of

Mrs. Elliott and financed by the local

branch of the United Nations Association,

which was a disreputable organisation,

from which the Governor had had to withdraw

his patronage.

(vi) China The Unofficials thought that

recent disputes over the leadership were

helpful to local confidence in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong should not

be taken for granted.

(iv)

Confidence in the U.K.

H.M.G.'s policies

sometimes seemed inconsistent or inexplicable,

e.g. 14 million aid to Zambia. H.M.G.'s

general foreign policy should be related

to the export drive and should be

consistent.

(v) Ministerial Visits

Recent visits were

welcomed and it was hoped they would recur.

(vi) Aid

It was hoped that H.M.G. would consider

helping to finance the airport extension.
