Cross Harbour Tunnel
1. Further to my letter of 17th May about the tunnel
2. I am afraid it has not been possible in the past week to get much news of what is happening about this project. Col. Clague has been fully occupied for the past ten days with his duties as Commandant of the. Auxiliary Police and I gather from Peter Scales that no Board meeting is scheduled to take place for the immediate future.
3.
Scales did however tell me that Brothers had returned to London in order to assist John Marden at a direct confrontation you held with him. Scales did not seem too alear as to what had been discussed at this meeting, but I gather you broached the question of the sinking fund.

4. The internal security position here has become a little easier in the last 48 hours, but there is still a lot of nervousness as to what Peking's next move will be. The business community seems to be holding up fairly well but the general opinion is that Hong Kong will have lost the "zip" in its expansion.
