Dear Bunny Вишу

David Lai.

Please disregard my letter of 23rd January, 1968 about David Lai's movements. The Heung Yee Kuk delegation was unhappy about the arrangements for its tour of Britain and pleaded strongly for David Lai to accompany them, as Mr. K.Y.Yeung from the New Territories Administration who was accompanying them had not been in Britain before and was meeting with difficulties.

Michael Gass happened to be in the office when David Lai came to consult me about this matter and agreed that in the circumstances it was desirable for David Lai to accompany the delegation. I shall be writing to Hong Kong shortly asking for an extension to David Lai's period of secondment but in the meantime you can take it that he will be with the delegation until their return to London on 17th February.

The delegation had originally planned to return to Hong Kong on 23rd February. Three of the members will now be flying back on 28th February with Mr. Y.K. Yeung and one member is probably staying on longer for personal reasons. The Delegation has expressed a strong wish to call upon the Secretary of State as well as on Lord Shepherd and I wonder if it would be possible to fit this in now that their visit is being extended.

W.S.Carter, Esq., C.V.O., Commonwealth Office, Curtis Green Building, Victoria Embankment, LONDON, S.W.1.

Yours sincerely,

fat sexpord

(P.C.M.Sedgwick).
