ENTRY CERTIFICATES
12. How can I make sure before starting my journey that I am not likely to be refused admission?
You may, if you wish, apply for an entry certificate to the nearest British representative* in the country in which you are living. You should ask for form I.M.2. If you want an entry certificate, you should apply well before the date on which you wish to travel. There is no charge for a certificate, which will normally be valid for six months from the date of issue. You may use your entry certificate any number of times while it is valid. An entry certifi- cate is not compulsory and does not guarantee admission, but it will be endorsed in your passport, and will show the Immigration Officer that you appeared to the issuing authority to be qualified for admission.
* In a foreign country, at the nearest diplomatic or consular office; in an independent Commonwealth country, at the nearest office of the British High Commission; in most Colonies, at the office of the Principal Immigration Officer.
