Unless the Immigration Officer imposes a condition that prevents your taking employment you will be able to work in your spare time and during holidays. A Commonwealth citizen admitted as a student is expected to leave the United Kingdom when his studies cease.

11. What about student nurses, apprentices and trainees? Student nurses, pupil nurses and pupil midwives will be treated as students, and paragraphs 6–10 apply to them. Apprentices or trainees in industry and commerce are dealt with in paragraph 19.

12. How can I make sure before starting my journey that I am not likely to be refused admission?

You may, if you wish, apply for an entry certificate to the nearest British representative* in the country in which you are living. You should ask for form I.M.2. If you want an entry certificate, you should apply well before the date on which you wish to travel. There is no charge for a certificate, which will normally be valid for six months from the date of issue. You may use your entry certificate any number of times while it is valid. An entry certifi- cate is not compulsory and does not guarantee admission, but it will be endorsed in your passport, and will show the Immigration Officer that you appeared to the issuing authority to be qualified for admission.
