2. Recent heavy rainfall has given enough water to see us through winter. Reservoirs are over 90 per cent full. We are proceeding with feasibility study only in case futute needs arise. Please use this information freely with contacts (who need no longer be restricted as in your paragraph 3) to make clear we are not in any dire straits.

3. We agree Manila piped supply non-starter and assume remarks on this would also apply to Laguna De Bay.

4. We understand oil refineries in Batangas area obtain water from Lake Taal. Shell Hong Kong are making enquiries for us. Grateful for your comments on this and on possib- ility of tapping Pansipit River to pipe water to tankers lying offshore in Balayan Bay, particularly

(a) head of water available;

(b)

rate of flow;

(c)

water characteristics;
