The total labour force increased only from 1.2 millions in 1961 to 1.45 millions in 1966. Allowing for deaths during that period it seems likely to me that we effectively absorbed the young people coming on to the labour market and that the average age of our working force fell.

The net result is what is perhaps self-evident - no change in the rate of participation but more workers because of a larger population and more younger people, especially women, in the total labour force because of a younger population.
