International Labour Office does not use industrial classification of light electrical assembly. Nearest equivalent is manufacture of electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances, and supplies (group 370). Survey of wages covered only selected industries and no information available on wages rates for group as a whole. Numbers employed in this group at end of September, 1966 were 30,186 comprising 7,637 men and 22,549 women.

Largest sub-group in group 370 includes assembly of transistor radios and manufacture of related components. Numbers employed at end of September 1966 were 15,298 comprising 2,363 men and 12,935 women. Workers normally on daily rates but hourly rates are calculated as (HK) 2.61 for men and (HK)0.94 for women. Additionally, workers generally receive annual Chinese New Year bonus of one month's wages, monthly good attendance bonus of one or two day's wages, and free meals although practices vary in individual factories.
