Your telegram No.226.

Dispute at East Asia Textiles Limited.

Dispute was finally settled at 25th meeting held in Labour Department on afternoon of 2nd February.

2. Following normal resumption of work on 25th December by all workers except ten dismissed workers negotiations resumed on outstanding matters after Christmas holidays. No progress was made during following four weeks and both parties agreed, in accordance with paragraph 5(b) of my telegram No.1192 to seek advice of Commissioner of Labour.

3. Commissioner of Labour advised that ten dismissed workers should be regarded as having gone on strike and should be treated in the same way as other workers who went on strike. Provisions of temporary agreement should apply to ten workers who should be given opportunity to return to work on same conditions as other strikers. Discussions to be resumed on practical ways of carrying out advice in view of passage of time since temporary agreement became effective on 22nd December.

4. Both parties resumed discussions and eventually compromise reached regarding each of the ten workers on following basis:-
